CERPAC

The process of obtaining a Combined Expatriate Residence Permit and Aliens Card (CERPAC) in Nigeria is crucial for expatriates seeking to reside and work in the country.

Understanding the costs, requirements, and procedures involved is essential for a seamless application process.

In this comprehensive guide, we will explore the detailed requirements, associated fees, processing duration, and exemptions for CERPAC processing.

Understanding CERPAC Requirements

Before initiating the CERPAC application process, applicants must ensure they have all the necessary documents and meet specific criteria.

Here’s a breakdown of the key requirements:

  1. Purchase of CR Forms: Acquire four “2×2 passport photographs on a white background.
  2. Employer’s Endorsement: Submit an application on the letterhead of the employer, indicating acceptance of Immigration Responsibilities (I.R), duly endorsed by the Nigerian High Commissioner.
  3. Passport and Visa Endorsement: Provide the national passport of the applicant with STR Visa endorsement, along with photocopies of relevant data pages.
  4. Letter of Appointment: Include a letter of appointment and acceptance of the offer by the employee.
  5. Expatriate Quota Approval: Present the expatriate quota approval of the company issued by the Minister of Interior.
  6. Credential Copies: Submit photocopies of the applicant’s credentials.
  7. Completed Forms: Fill out and submit forms IMMA 2.1 and E.20.
  8. Incorporation Documents: Provide particulars of incorporation documents as required for expatriate quota application.
  9. Qualifying Certificate and Resume: Include the qualifying certificate and resume of the expatriate.
  10. Company Profile: Submit the company profile of the applicant.

Understanding the Fees

The fees associated with CERPAC processing are as follows:

  • CERPAC Fee: $2,000 per expatriate. This fee was introduced by the Minister of Interior in 2018.
  • Professional Fee: Ranges from $300 to $500, depending on the service provider.

Processing Duration and Procedure

After submitting the application, a temporary card valid for two year and renewable for another two years will be issued.

This temporary card allows the expatriate to travel in and out of Nigeria pending the availability of the permanent card, which typically takes 2-3 months to process.

The application is submitted at the office of the Comptroller-General of Immigration, located at the immigration HQ on Airport Road, Sauka, Abuja.

It is important to note that the presence of the expatriate is required during the application process.

Exemptions

Certain categories of individuals are exempted from CERPAC fees and are granted gratis.

These include diplomats, government officials (GOs), Niger wives, and non-governmental organisations (NGOs).

Important Note on CERPAC Green Card

Possession of a CERPAC Green Card does not exempt the holder from the requirement of a valid re-entry visa.

Prior to departure from Nigeria, individuals must apply for a re-entry permit.

Summary of Costs

Fee Type Amount
CERPAC Fee $2,000 per expatriate
Professional Fee $300 – $500 per expatriate

Conclusion

Obtaining a CERPAC is essential for expatriates seeking to reside and work in Nigeria.

By understanding the requirements, costs, and procedures involved, applicants can navigate the application process effectively.

Whether applying individually or seeking professional assistance, ensuring compliance with all regulations is key to a successful CERPAC application.
